Milan, 31 Jan. (Adnkronos Salute) – An 84-year-old woman, originally from Trani, donated her kidneys and liver. The operations of what is the second multi-organ donation of 2023 to Andria ended overnight. And the doctors applaud the example given by the elderly woman’s family. “There are no age limits to donate organs – highlights Giuseppe Vitobello, transplant coordinator of the ASL Bt – and this woman has allowed other people today, perhaps even younger, to continue living. His gesture of love is moving.” And for the general director of the ASL Bt, Tiziana Dimatteo, it must be precisely “an example. The idea that at 84 you can still be hope for someone is beautiful,” he says.
In the operating rooms directed by Nicola Di Venosa, the team of urologists from Foggia took turns taking the kidneys and the team of hepatologists from the Policlinico di Bari who took the liver. “I feel the duty to thank the woman’s family and all the health workers of the Bonomo Hospital in Andria – adds Vitobello – for the great teamwork that has allowed us to complete this delicate donation operation”. The DG also addresses a “choral thanks to the family that has been able, even in pain, to choose for yes”.
