Cagliari, 19 Jan. (Adnkronos Salute) — The president of the Regional Council of Sardinia, Michele Pais, met Lorenzo d’Antonio, director of the Regional Transplant Center and the president of ‘Prometeo Sardegna’ Giuseppe Argiolas, in view of next February 24, the first ‘Day of organ and tissue donation and transplantation’ established by regional law n.21 of , approved by the Assembly unanimously.
During the meeting it was decided, among other things, that the Day will be held in the Council Chamber in a session during which special awards will be given to the families of people who have decided, with their donations, to make a great gesture of generosity and altruism, allowing other women and men of all ages to «continue» life in good health.
The law of Sardinia, among the first in Italy, is very important, Argiolas and D’Antonio argued, but the role of regional institutions is essential to spread more and more in Sardinian society the «culture» of donations, favoring a choice of great human and civil significance that can already be carried out in very simple ways (in municipal offices at the time of renewal of the identity card, at family doctors and ASL).
From this point of view, noted in particular the director of the regional transplant center Lorenzo d’Antonio, it also seems appropriate to update the national framework law (n.91 / 99) which in some aspects has proved difficult to apply.Sardinia, he added, could be the leading region of this process of change and innovation, a sign of a new society that is more open and concretely supportive.
Still on legislative matters, the president of Prometeo Sardegna Giuseppe Argiolas, also on behalf of other regional associations representing about 1000 Sardinian transplanted, delivered to President Pais a document containing some proposals to modify the current regional law, aimed at improving the overall well-being of transplanted patients.
President Pais, after recalling the unanimous approval «in record time» of regional law 21, assured the utmost attention to the proposals presented which, he specified, thanks to the unitary will of the Council will be introduced as soon as possible in the regional order.
The day of February 24, concluded the President, has for the Council and for all Sardinians, also a high symbolic value that we intend to honor in the best way.On that tragic day in 2004, in fact, dr. Alessandro Ricchi, his team and crew members, while transporting a heart to the Brotzu hospital to be transplanted.
