The inauguration took place this morning with the president of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by the general director of the Usl Toscana Centro, Paolo Morello Marchese, the health director of the ASL Tc Emanuele Gori, the health director of the hospital Sara Melani, the director of cardiology Francesco Bellandi, the director of intensive care Guglielmo Consales, the regional councilor Ilaria Bugetti, the deputy mayor of Prato Simone Faggi, the director of the Health Society Lorena Paganelli, the territorial services health coordinator Laura Tattini, the director of Maintenance and Investment Management Gianluca Gavazzi.
Present the nursing team of cardiology, coordinated by Adriana Valenziano, the director of nursing care of Prato Daniela Ammazzini and other health professionals.
«What we are inaugurating this morning is an important and significant implementation intervention for the Prato hospital – said President Giani – there will be ten beds in total Utic, with machinery, instrumentation and specialist personnel. They concern an area of absolute delicacy for people’s lives. I want to thank the doctors and all the health workers who always work with commitment and dedication. In Prato we have also introduced robotic surgery, an implant that represents excellence in the ASL Toscana Centro. This is a very significant step for the Prato hospital where we observe the progressive development of a reorganization system. It is a strong push towards the commitment we have made and that we will continue to assume to give a strong response on health services in Prato».
This is a functional improvement that has made it possible to equip the Utic with a total of ten intensive beds: eight in open space and two, already present, in a single room with the possibility of carrying out a possible isolation.
Each station is equipped with high-tech instruments for monitoring vital signs 24 hours a day.In the open space there is a desk that allows medical and nursing staff to carry out constant patient supervision. The open space with the new beds is located on the second floor of the hospital in a space adjacent to the Cardiology.
The spaces that house the new beds have been realized through the conversion of about 300 square meters of the intensive care area; The works involved the structural, plant engineering and technological part. The economic framework amounts to a total of 840,000 euros, of which 430,000 for the works alone.
«In October 2020 – Giani recalled – I was responsible for Sanità Toscana as President. Immediately, I wanted to realize the structures of the Ex Creaf that during the pandemic period have had an important importance and have been a reference at national level. Today, thinking about the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, I have given priority, among the works that can be carried out throughout Tuscany, to the District of San Paolo. We will complete the executive project by March 31st and I expect to see the work start in the autumn, which will be huge and important.»
The construction of the new Utic beds was financed with Ministerial funds of DL 34 (Arcuri Decree) following the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the health emergency, the idea of the need to strengthen the intensive care area was born: the Utic had been transferred to other settings to allocate a substantial number of intensive beds to Covid patients.
This enhancement operation has allowed cardiology to have a total of 10 beds of coronary intensive care (Utic) and 10 beds of sub-intensive cardiology.
«An important expansion of the response that the Santo Stefano hospital is able to give to the population of Prato with an expansion of the offer of beds for patient management with greater clinical-assistance complexity — underlines Sara Melani — Thanks go to the health staff and the Technical Area for the important teamwork carried out that has allowed the achievement of this goal.»
» Thanks to the commitment of the General Management of the Health Authority, the Presidium Management and the Technical Area — added Francesco Bellandi — it was possible to achieve the strengthening of the cardiology intensive care area and to achieve an important goal.I express my personal thanks and those of the Cardiology staff.»
The project was also realized thanks to the important contribution of the Cardiology nursing team, coordinated by Adriana Valenziano. On the basis of previous experiences, improvement elements have been introduced to respond in a more functional and adequate way to the needs and complexity of patients.
The cardiology of Santo Stefano records over 1300 hospitalizations a year with an average hospitalization of 5.5 days. It has two hemodynamic rooms and an electrophysiology room equipped with high-tech instruments. 1300 invasive and interventional coronary and structural diagnostic services are performed. Over 450 electrophysiology interventions (pacemaker implants, defibrillators and biventricular pacemakers)
«The increase in beds offers an improved contribution to the hospital organization – added the regional councilor Bugetti – A redevelopment and increase intervention that helps all the complexity of the hospital».
