Milan, 28 Feb. (Adnkronos Health) — Lombards consume 9 grams a day, the World Health Organization asks to stay under 5. The Milanese doctors decided: «Let’s take the salt to court». It will be a real trial — with a lot of confrontation between prosecutors and defense lawyers, and sentence pronounced at the end of the ‘indictment’ — to be held tomorrow, Wednesday 1 March at 17, in the Aula Magna of the University of Milan. At the bar an excellent defendant: salt, in fact. Known to the world for flavoring foods, he has been accused of endangering many of our vital organs — heart, kidneys, brain — and therefore our health every day.
After a historical philosophical framework of the case presented by Elio Franzini, Rector of the State University, and a reflection on how much salt is part of our lives and our gestures without us even realizing it, the prosecutor Nunzia Gatto (advocate general at the Court of Appeal of Milan) will examine the crimes committed by salt in many centuries of history, while the lawyers Ilaria Li Vigni and Giorgia Andreis will defend the defendant, represented for the occasion by chef Federico Trobbiani. Thanks to the consultants of the Tribunal and to witnesses and consultants of the parties, and of course to the jury, a final decision will be made. The verdict is expected in the evening, to pronounce it will be the president of the ordinary Court of Milan, Fabio Roia.It will be a ‘public’ process. The event, in fact, is open to all citizens.
But who brought the salt to court? «Yes, it was us — explains Roberto Carlo Rossi, president of the Order of Doctors and Dentists of Milan — Too many complaints and crimes committed in recent years, where space has increasingly been made in our kitchen, but above all in packaged foods. We are confident that it will be a fair trial. We do not hope for a life sentence, but rather an educational penalty, which forces him to limit himself and prevents him from doing too much harm».
