Monogenic diabetes (DM) is a form of genetically determined diabetes, caused by mutations in a single gene. Most DM genes cause a deficiency in the number or function of pancreatic beta cells, but there are forms of DM with autoimmune pathogenesis that also result in reduced insulin secretion and forms characterized by reduced insulin action (insulin resistance)
