Indications for a correct diagnosis of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) in patients with breast implants and reporting of diagnosed cases to the Ministry of Health.

Squamous cell carcinoma of periprosthetic capsular tissue (SCC) is a rare form of malignancy, of unknown etiology, that can be diagnosed in patients with breast implants.

From a first review of the scientific literature, 14 cases of SCC have emerged, diagnosed, from the early 90s to today, in patients undergoing breast implantation both for aesthetic and reconstructive purposes, with smooth or textured surface implants, with salt or silicone content. In most cases, patients had a unilateral increase in breast volume due to serous or serohaematic collection, often associated with the presence of a mass in the periprosthetic capsule.
