Berlin (pag) – Since July, practices have been obliged to transmit sick leave digitally to health insurance companies. The share of the so-called eAU has risen sharply in recent months – but not all of them are there yet, as an evaluation by Barmer shows.
The share of eAU that doctors have transmitted digitally to the health insurance funds was around 20 percent at the end of May and has risen to 79 percent by mid-October, according to figures from Barmer. On individual days, the rate now even exceeds 80 percent significantly. At the same time, the error rate fell from just under six to around 0.3 percent. «In the area of sick leave, digitization in the healthcare sector is picking up speed,» says Prof. Christoph Straub, head of the treasury.
However, not all practices transmit the certificates digitally. As reasons, the Barmer calls, among other things, that the facilities use up already existing forms. Paper certificates can also be issued in the event of technical difficulties. In addition, there are private medical and foreign practices, so that a «transmission rate of 100 percent is not achievable». For the eAU, Straub hopes for a digital quota of 95 percent.
From the beginning of 2023, employers will only be able to retrieve the AU data of their employees electronically from the health insurance funds. For this purpose, a pilot project for data exchange is currently underway. In the first half of the year, there were 128,000 views and since July already more than 116,000 downloads.According to Straub, the companies show a «strong interest» in the digital eAU process. «We are therefore confident about the coming year, from which digital sick leave will be used nationwide by all companies.»
Other projects, such as the electronic patient record, would have to prevail increasingly, demands the CEO of the fund. «It is important that the Federal Government implements its project promptly, according to which an electronic patient record is made available to all insured persons in the opt-out procedure.»
